"I love the work. when I was 13 years old I crawled up on a stool and learned to set type by hand and have been working ever since only to go to school and college. I was a read daddy girl and I did this just to help him. I came to Ashburn when I was four years old, nothing was here, only a wilderness. So I have watched the town grow and love it. It is marvelous how to town has grown the past few years with an active Chamber of Commerce made up of members who have given time and money to bring industry here. We beg of every citizen to lend their support to making Ashburn and Turner County grow."</text>

<text>Editorial by Wiregrass Farmer Editor Ben Baker advocating for the Turner County festival to be named the Fire Ant Festival.

"I like the idea for a number of reasons (not just because I came up with the name.) Think about the other festival around Georgia. Georgia has kudzu, mule, hogs and gnats for goodness sake with festivals in their name.

"We can have a mascot, an ant in a fire chief's hat and bunker gear standing with a hose ready to put out a fire. Or maybe an ant in camp fatigues and a flamethrower strapped to his back...

Fire ants are everywhere down here. Everybody has been bitten by a fire ant at least once. I can't think of a single redeeming feature for these insects.

Our festival would be an honoring tribute to the fire ant but a simple recognition for all this tiny creature has done since coming here from another continent..."
