Description
An account of the resource
250 prisoners, 65 U.S. personnel, and one medic. The camp was started in late 1943 and disbanded in 1946.
Most of the prisoners spoke German with a few who could speak English.
They built tables, mounted animals, painted, turpentined, stacked peanuts, and helped farmers.
"The farmers didn't pay the prisoners directly, but they normally gave them money for cigarettes and other things. The personnel in the camp woud give them cigarettes and ... money to buy a few luxuries."
"Located on a field about 500 feet square. It had four guard houses without windows. There were flood lights so that no one could escape. There were ten strings of barbed wire around it and in it."

"He had boothes [sic] in far left side with a jukebox in far back. This was the hangout for teens back In The fifties !!! the store had a counter with stools up front on left side. Served cokes, ice cream,etc. at the far front were shelves with the latest movie magazines!!! My favorite was Photoplay because it had lots of current movie stars . I would buy one & cut out my favorite stars & add to my scrapbooks. Marilyn Monroe, Debbie Reynolds, Doris Day, Paul Newman., Rock Hudson & many more! Then, the best of all ELVIS!!!"

Hallman Service Station
Description
An account of the resource
Bill Hallman, his daughter Janette Hallman, and others at his service station and grist mill around 1947. This was located at 2633 US Hwy 41, Sycamore, GA. The building is no longer there and is currently another business and building.
From Erlene Hicks:
"...There was our service station, then the mule barn not connected, then the row of stores ending with Hardy's. On the north end was a small grocery store, run by a Mr. Wood, Wisham's Fish Market, the Suwannee Store run by an older couple from Abbeville I think, then a Mr. and Mrs. Keene; later moving up to the corner of the intersection. Then there were one or two more shops between it and Hardy's."

The Phelps family home was on the west end of Inaha Road. This was located right [ast where the church road turns left then right. The house was on the left side, about 200 yards distance. The home was torn down several years ago.
