Title

New County of Turner Presents Her Claims, c. 1905

Subject

Proposes to take small parts of four large counties - other new counties to be heard from. Work of Legislative Committees

Description

"'Turner' count was the first case on the docket yesterday before the house and senate committees on new counties."
...
"Judge Lawton Miller, of Macon, appeared as counsel for those interested in and urging the creation of the new county of 'Turner.' He called attention to the fact that Turner county stands on a different footing from many of the other applicants, in that it proposes to take comparatively small portions from four large counties, namely, Dooly, Wilcox, Irwin and Worth. These four counties contain 2,700 square miles and 92,000 people.
Judge Miller presented considerable statistical evidence as to area, taxable property and population, and filed with the committee petitions which, he stated, were signed by more than 90 per cent of the citizens and property owners in the district to be affected, urging that 'Turner' county be created.
It was proposed to make Ashburn, in Worth county, the county seat of the new county, as the town is located near the center of the territory of which it is proposed to create the new county."
