Title
Ashburn Bird's Eye View
Description
Now and then, 100 years of differences. Some buildings have been added; some are completely gone. Roofs have changed or have caved in. Power lines and paved streets. It may be sad to see our current state of downtown Ashburn but we like to be optimistic and hope for positive change soon; a revitalization of Ashburn.
The old photo is a postcard scan from what the TCP *thinks* is the 1920s. It was taken from the top of the courthouse clock tower. In the photo you can see the old smoke stack that was once part of Bett’s Lumber Co.
The new photo was taken with a drone May 17, 2023 from right beside the courthouse clock tower to get a similar view.

photo 2: FROM DAVID BALDWIN: “THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN BY IRA TEAGUE (BORN MARCH 25, 1875; DIED MAY 17, 1944). HE IS BURIED AT ROSEHILL [CEMETERY] IN ONE OF THE FIRST PLACES ON THE RIGHT ON THE DRIVEWAY ENTRANCE FROM THE ASHBURN TOWN IN THE MCLENDON FAMILY PLOT. IRA WAS PARALYZED IN THE SPANISH AMERICAN WAR. THE REMARKABLE THING ABOUT THIS PICTURE, AND HE TOOK OTHERS, IS THAT HE COMPLETELY RECOVERED AND WAS ABLE TO CLIMB THE STEPS OF THE CLOCK TOWER AND TAKE THIS PICTURE. HOW DO I KNOW IRA TEAGUE TOOK THESE PICTURES? HE SIGNED ONE OF THEM IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER.”
