The Gammages (Patsy's House)
Dublin Core
Title
The Gammages (Patsy's House)
Description
A leather-carved, inked painting of the Ashburn home of Patsy Gammage Rembert, created by her husband, artist Winfred Rembert. Winfred was sent to the Turner County Public Works Camp before its closure, and it was during his time in Ashburn that he met Patsy, who later became his wife.
"She [Patsy] loves me for who I am, not what I got. She made that plain, and Patsy never had anything - I mean, really nothing. When we were sleeping in her parents' house in Georgia, we could look up and see the sky. When it rained, we had to put pots and pans down to catch the water. I'm telling you, we've had it hard. We've had it real hard." (Chasing Me to My Grave by Windfred Rembert, page 267)
