"Concluding 30 years of service to the community, J.T. McLendon, chief of the Ashburn Fire Department, revealed this week that he is retiring.
Mr. McLendon who will continue his business duties at Mitchell-Stewart Hardward Co. with which he has been associated for 28 years has been a member of Ashburn's volunteer fire department unit since the late 1930's when the department only had one truck and 12 firemen.
Ashburn's modern fire department now has three trucks and a volunteer corps of 14 fire fighters."
