Turner's Double Lynching
Dublin Core
Title
Turner's Double Lynching
Description
The Tifton Gazette reported on April 22, 1910, the lynching of Albert Royal and Charles Jackson near Ashburn. A mob abducted and shot the men, binding them to trees. Royal, a farmer, had faced legal and community harassment. Jackson had been accused of assaulting a white woman but was bailed out by Royal. Subsequent warrants led to the arrest of five white men, but a preliminary hearing dismissed the charges due to insufficient evidence.
