I am so happy to have found the Turner County Project website, referred to me by a cousin. My father, John Evans McDonald, now age 93, grew up in Ashburn. He lived for six years or so in the Old Evans House with his grandmother Florrie Evans. His father’s business in Cordele failed in the Depression, and his family moved in with grandmother Florrie to stay afloat financially. She was the last person to live full time in the Evans house and died in 1955. By that time Dad’s family had moved to another house in Ashburn, and he graduated from Ashburn High School in 1945. Dad was so pleased to see the write-ups about his grandfather, great grandfather and other relatives in the paragraphs about the old Evans house. Thank you for all your good work in producing the website.

Oh Susan, this is exactly why the Turner County Project was created: To share with anyone who has a heart for Ashburn, the history, and beyond. Thank you for your very kind comment. I would love to interview your dad if he is up to it! He can be part of our “People of Turner County Series.”
