Location: McLendon Street in Ashburn, Georgia
Date: March 10, 2021
McLendon Street was named for Josiah Thomas McLendon (April 6, 1846 – February 22, 1929). He moved from Macon to Ashburn in 1888 and built his home in 1889. He was a saw mill owner and a farmer. He was married to Carolyn “Carrie” Elizabeth Green (Dec 25, 1849-August 26, 1932). Below is a photo of his home.
This is a Victorian style home and interestingly, the house contained no indoor plumbing until 1944 when it was sold to a new family and renovated.
His children, Claud and Clair McLendon also lived down the road from him on McLendon Street although their homes faced Phillips Avenue and has that street address.
