Commemorative Ashburn Bank Plate, 2000

April 28, 2026Ashburn

The Ashburn Bank was established in 1900, originally located in the building now known as the Elrod Center on Washington Avenue. This commemorative plate was created in 2000 to celebrate 100 years of Ashburn Bank.

According to the Wiregrass Farmer on March 13, 1914, the bank’s officers at that time were:

  • W.A. Shingler, President
  • J.S. Betts, Vice President
  • J.S. Johnson, Cashier
  • W.G. Shingler, Assistant Cashier

In 1926, the bank relocated to the corner of Gordon St. and E. College Avenue into the old Turner County Bank Building (which later served as Ashburn’s second post office as well). It is now known as the Coastal Plain building. This location was notable for its stained glass windows, purchased from a church in England.

The bank moved again in 1950, settling across the street in the building that now houses the Turner County Annex.

The bank’s final move came in 1991, when it relocated to 515 E. Washington Avenue, where it continues to operate today as Colony Bank.
